Working in Encino
Encino lots are generous and mostly flat, which means a slide gate usually has the backrun it needs and a swing gate has the depth. That widens the options more than in the hills, and it is why the biggest clear openings we build tend to be here.
Being inland, corrosion is not the driver it is on the coast — we do not specify galvanised substrate here unless something else justifies it. Heat and UV on west elevations matter more.
Why the largest openings we build tend to be here
A slide gate needs a clear backrun as long as the opening itself, and Encino’s flat, generous lots are one of the few places in the service area where that backrun is rarely the limiting factor. That is why our biggest single-leaf openings — eighteen feet and up — have mostly ended up here rather than in the hills, where lot depth usually rules a large slide gate out before anything else does.
A wide opening changes more than the gate: the operator, the track and the post footings all scale with leaf length, not just leaf weight, so a large Encino gate is a heavier build across the board than a modest one elsewhere.
Slide or swing, decided by the driveway rather than preference
With the backrun rarely constrained here, the decision between slide and swing usually comes down to how the driveway gets used day to day rather than what the lot allows. A slide keeps the full width of the opening clear at all times, which suits a property with more than one vehicle passing through; a swing reads more traditional and suits a single entrance.
Cantilever comes up less often in Encino specifically, since it exists mainly to solve a sloped or uneven approach that flat Encino lots rarely present.
Long driveways and existing landscaping
A long, established driveway usually means mature landscaping already framing the approach, and we work the gate and post placement around what is already there rather than asking a client to remove a decades-old hedge to make our job easier. Irrigation lines along a long driveway are the other thing that gets located before any post holes go in.
Where the driveway itself is being widened or repaved alongside the gate work, we coordinate timing with that trade so the gate is not the thing holding up a hardscape crew, or vice versa.
Typical timeline
Encino jobs tend to move through the schedule faster than hillside or coastal work, mainly because there is usually no HOA review to wait on and no coastal specification adding lead time to the finish schedule. Six to eight weeks from site visit to handover is typical rather than the longer end of the range.
The trade-off is scale: a large single-leaf slide gate here can take longer in the shop than a smaller gate elsewhere, even though the site logistics are simpler.

What Encino changes
- Openings
- Wide flat frontages suit slide gates. We measure the backrun on site — it needs to be as long as the opening, and that is the usual constraint.
- Inland
- No coastal salt spec needed. Standard primed and powder-coated steel performs for decades here.
- Sun
- West-facing runs take heavy UV. Dark vinyl distorts, and hardwood needs its re-coat on schedule rather than when it looks tired.
